Woo hoo!

My first blog was posted March 19, 2021.  I am taking a moment to celebrate!

Thank you for reading. A huge thanks to my friend and editor, Forrest Miller, for being a part of this journey. Writing consistently for 3 years has given me the opportunity to grow as a writer, to explore many facets of resilience, and to connect with a lot of people.

That first blog was:

A Series of Questions to Reduce Procrastination: From an Expert

Truly. I re-read it today, it lists 4 questions to ask yourself when you are struggling with procrastination. I’m going to keep asking myself those questions. You can find it, and all the posts on the LearnModelTeach.com website. We added a search function so you can find what you want for yourself or to share. Meanwhile, I am going to celebrate by going out for dessert.

What about you? What are your recent milestones or accomplishments that deserve a little celebration? Taking time out to notice what you have done is important. So often, the moment you are near a goal, you set a new one before really noticing what you have accomplished. This contributes to fatigue and a sense that you will never “arrive.” Pause to notice and celebrate in whatever way you enjoy.

Later, take some time to notice what you have learned along the way. Aside from the tangible results there is much to gain by reflecting on the process. Considering my own journey a few things come to mind:

Growth

I have grown as a writer. The most important aspect of my writing is that it make a positive difference in a stressful world. Along the way I have learned to be more succinct, to write with or without a sense of “inspiration,” and to structure my posts more consistently. I still procrastinate, am not sure why semicolons exist, and live a very busy life. And yet, I have 3 years of posts done and a flexible writing routine that is working. I don’t have a book (yet), but I feel a lot better about calling myself a writer now.

Exploration

I have explored many facets of resilience. I used to worry about running out of ideas. Not anymore. The deeper I go, the more fascinated I become. Resilience is needed our whole lives.  It intersects with so many other aspects of what it means to be a human, including individual, family, and community resilience. You added to my exploration by sharing stories and questions that inspire more writing and reflection. Thank you for joining me on this journey,

Connection

I have connected with a lot of people. I started with 10 people reading my posts, now there are 100’s. More of my training work overlaps with my writing which leads to wonderful conversations. Some of you I knew before I started writing; others are new to my world through online connections. I met a few of you while traveling. Engaging with you, whether in person or online, enriches my life.  It heartens me to think of “Team Resilience” – the hundreds of people seeking to improve their own well-being so that they can also spread positivity.

So….woo hoo to three years!

Hurray to a stack of blog posts about resilience that are available online. Gratitude for Forrest’s editorial questions and their ability to manage semi colons. Gratitude for all of you reading this; we are growing as a community every month. Take time to celebrate your own successes. Then take time to notice how you have been enriched on the journey.

I would love to hear about your accomplishments and inspiration. I can be reached at resilience@learnmodelteach.com, or you can share in the comments section on the Facebook page.

Peace,

Laura A. Gaines

P.S. – On the tools page there is a list of those questions you can print, save to your phone, or put wherever it will inspire you!
