Holiday Survival Tip: Find the Joy
December 11, 2024Saturday Dec 21st is the darkest day of the year, the Winter Solstice for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere. The next morning each day begins to get a tiny bit brighter. However, Spring is still a long way away. This is the time of year to shine – to signal you need help or to brighten up your life, and the lives of others, so that we can get through Winter together.
I talk to people all over the world who are in various places in their journey. Some are overwhelmed, struggling with a major loss, a mental health crisis, or a business that just isn’t launching. Others are doing well with lots of resources, an upbeat mood and projects that are full steam ahead. Most people are a mix of the above – good days and bad, some projects going well, others foundering, motivation and self-doubt. To move forward, we all need to shine. This looks different depending on where you are in your journey.
If You Are Struggling
Keep flashing those SOS signs. Let people know you are in need of support, or encouragement. This can be a direct ask to someone you know or a continual reaching out to professionals. Find the little things that bring your energy up and share it with others. Reach out; you deserve to get the support you need.
If Life is Going Well
Shine for yourself and for those around you. Plan a gathering to celebrate. Volunteer to make a difference. Reach out to those who need encouragement. Share a smile, a word, or an opportunity for joy. Start your next adventure or goal and share your sparkle with others. Your energy will light the way for others.
If Life is Up and Down
Shine when you can, rest as you need. Reach out to others because you have the energy to lift someone else up or because you need encouragement. If parts of your life are difficult be sure to spend time in those areas that bring you joy. You have the right to shine.
This Solstice remember that we all need to shine in order to get through to Spring. How you shine will depend on where you are in your journey. Flash SOS signals when you need help, spread warmth when you have the strength, celebrate your joy and keep turning toward those people and activities that light you up. We can get through Winter together finding reasons to shine along the way.
Peace,
Laura
